The Chimpanzee is a monkey that lives in Africa. They are the closest living relative to humans, and share 98% of our DNA! Chimpanzees are very intelligent animals and can learn to use tools, communicate through sign language, and even understand human emotions.
Chimpanzees are omnivores, which means they eat a variety of things including insects, fruits, vegetables, and meat. They live in groups called troops, which can have as many as 100 members. Chimpanzees are social animals and like to play together. They also build nests in trees to sleep in at night.
Chimpanzees are in danger of becoming extinct due to habitat loss and hunting. However, there are many conservation efforts underway to help protect them.
