If you're lucky enough to find yourself in the Galápagos Islands, keep your eyes peeled for the manchineel tree! These fascinating trees are found throughout the islands and are easily recognizable thanks to their bright green leaves. Although they may look harmless, manchineel trees are actually extremely poisonous - so beware!

Manchineel trees are typically found in coastal areas and can grow up to 20 meters tall. They have smooth, grey bark and their leaves are arranged in pairs along the branches. The fruits of the manchineel tree resemble small apples and are a bright green colour.

Although they may be tempting to eat, the fruits of the manchineel tree are incredibly poisonous. In fact, the tree is so poisonous that it is actually considered to be one of the most dangerous trees in the world! The sap of the manchineel tree can cause blistering and swelling of the skin, and if ingested it can lead to severe gastrointestinal issues.
