Discover Tours

Located in southern Utah, Bryce Canyon National Park is a geological wonderland known for its unique collection of natural amphitheaters filled with intricate spires, pinnacles, and hoodoos. These fanciful formations are a result of thousands of years of erosion by wind and water. Despite its name, Bryce Canyon isn't a single canyon, but rather a series of horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters carved into the edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau.

One of the most popular viewpoints is Sunrise Point, which offers a panoramic view of the largest amphitheater filled with a labyrinth of red, orange, and white hoodoos. The park features other iconic viewpoints as well, like Inspiration Point and Bryce Point, each providing their own unique angle on this surreal landscape.

For those who wish to delve deeper, the park offers a range of hiking trails that take you down into the amphitheaters and among the hoodoos. The Navajo Loop Trail is one of the most popular hikes, descending into the canyon and passing through a narrow slot called Wall Street. The Queen's Garden Trail is another popular choice, allowing hikers to wander among formations that resemble everything from chess pieces to Biblical characters.

While Bryce Canyon may not have the depth or breadth of the Grand Canyon, its higher elevation gives it a different climate and ecology. The park is home to a range of wildlife, including pronghorn, mule deer, and even mountain lions. More than 175 species of birds have been recorded in the park, making it a worthwhile destination for birdwatchers. The diversity of plant life is also notable, with over 400 native species including ponderosa pines and quaking aspens.

The park is also an excellent place for stargazing, thanks to its high elevation, dry climate, and remote location. Like many other national parks in Utah, Bryce Canyon is designated as a Dark Sky Park, and the brilliance of the Milky Way can often be seen stretching across the night sky.

In summary, Bryce Canyon National Park offers an otherworldly experience that's unlike anything else you'll find in the United States. Whether you're gazing down at an amphitheater filled with hoodoos, hiking among these strange formations, or staring up at a sky filled with stars, Bryce Canyon provides a series of unique, awe-inspiring experiences. It's a smaller park compared to some of its more famous neighbors, but it packs a visual punch that leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.
